Description

1969  BN-3 Nymph Prototype  Four Place High Wing (Folding Wings) Aeroplane

Designed and manufactured by Britten- Norman at Bembridge and flown for the first time on the 17th of May 1969  registered G-AFXB fitted with a 115 BHP Lycoming engine. After testing the plane was fitted with 160 BHP Lycoming engine normal aspirated. Even after receiving 110 orders for the plane Britten Norman stop plans for production concentrating on the larger Trislander. In 1971 Britten Norman went bust and being as one of the Nymph was dismantled to save it from being scrapped willing parties hid the plane from the receivers. After years of gathering dust and a bid for freedom to Scotland  upon a failed restoration attempt the original owner of Britten Norman re-purchased the Nymph to develop it into to what would become the NAC-2 Freelance now manufactured under the Norman Aircraft Company name. With an altered air frame, strengthened wings, re-located nose, undercarriage and a 180 BHP Lycoming engine. The plane was re flown in 1984 and was used to develop the Freelance model registered G-NACI. The prototype Freelance once again fell in to gathering dust. After hearing the plane was to be sold Dave French one of the original assembly team for the Nymph at Britten Norman purchased the plane taking two years meticulously rebuilding the aeroplane.
